Renting vs Buying a Wheelchair in the UAE: How to Decide
Share
The Real Question: How Long Do You Need It
The buy-or-rent decision usually comes down to one thing: is this a short, defined period — a family member visiting, a short stay, a trip — or an ongoing, indefinite need? Short and defined generally favors renting. Ongoing or uncertain-but-likely-long-term generally favors buying, since rental costs add up over months while a purchase is a one-time cost you keep using.
What Buying Costs
In our current range, manual wheelchairs run from AED 330 for a standard foldable model up to around AED 7,000 for a sport model, with most everyday and reclining options in between. Electric wheelchairs start from around AED 2,500 for a foldable dual-motor model and go up to AED 11,500 for a carbon-fiber model. Buying makes the most sense once you know the wheelchair will be used for more than a few weeks, or when you want a specific model, fit, or feature set rather than whatever's available to rent.
What Renting Costs
We supply both manual and electric wheelchairs for purchase or rent. Rental rates depend on the specific model and the dates you need it, so we don't publish a fixed price list for rentals — message us on WhatsApp or see our equipment rental page and we'll confirm current rates for your dates. Renting becomes less cost-effective than buying as the rental period gets longer — ask us to compare the rental cost for your expected duration against the purchase price of a similar model, and we'll give you a straight answer on which works out cheaper.
Other Factors Beyond Price
Trying before you commit: if you're not sure whether manual or electric suits the user, or which features actually matter day to day, renting for a short period before buying can save you from an expensive mismatch.
Travel and visits: if the need is tied to a specific trip or visit to the UAE, renting avoids shipping a chair home or reselling it afterward.
Fit and features: buying gives you the full range to choose from — specific seat width, reclining function, an airplane-approved travel model, or a lightweight carbon-fiber build. Rental availability depends on the model, so ask which models can be rented for your dates.
Our Recommendation by Situation
A visiting family member staying a few weeks: rent. A permanent or long-term need: buy, and take time to get the right model rather than the first one available. A short stay with an uncertain end date: start with a rental and switch to buying if it looks like you'll need it for longer than a few weeks — ask us and we'll help you track that math as it develops.
